Benetton Demolish Dragons: 74-21 | URC Highlights & Analysis (2026)

A ruthless display of dominance! Benetton obliterated the Dragons with an astonishing 74-21 victory, leaving the Welsh side in tatters.

The Dragons, who had been soaring high with three wins in their recent four matches, faced a harsh reality check in Treviso. This defeat now means they must secure a win against Newcastle Red Bulls to keep their Challenge Cup dreams alive.

Benetton's performance was a clinic in rugby mastery. They scored an incredible eleven tries, leaving the Dragons reeling. The Welsh club simply couldn't cope with the relentless pressure and precision of their opponents.

Fijian wing Onisi Ratave was a force of nature, igniting Benetton's attack with powerful runs and clever offloads. His surge set up the first try for Alessandro Izekor, converted by Jacob Umaga, who had an exceptional game himself, scoring two tries and adding 19 points with his kicking.

But Ratave wasn't done yet. He bulldozed through four defenders, setting up the bonus-point try for Paolo Odogwu. And the Dragons' woes continued as Benetton's backs and forwards combined seamlessly, resulting in Umaga's fifth try before halftime.

And this is where it gets controversial... Was the Dragons' defense simply outclassed, or did Benetton's aggressive play cross the line? The physicality of the Italian club left the Dragons struggling to keep possession and respond effectively.

The second half continued the onslaught. Scrum-half Andy Uren's long pass to Lynagh for the try was a thing of beauty, showcasing Benetton's ability to mix brute force with finesse.

But wait, there's more! Benetton's seventh try was a masterpiece of teamwork, with Umaga's cross-kick finding Odogwu, who offloaded to Fekitoa. The centre's quick thinking led to Odogwu's second try.

The Dragons did manage a consolation try through Rio Dyer, but Benetton responded immediately with Umaga intercepting and scoring. Lynagh and Marin added further tries, with the Dragons' Shane Lewis-Hughes scoring a late consolation.

What's your take on this match? Was it a fair contest, or did Benetton's tactics border on unsportsmanlike? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
