Gloucestershire Railways: £25,000 Grants for Community Projects! (2026)

The clock is ticking for railway enthusiasts and community advocates in Gloucestershire! Great Western Railway (GWR) has issued a final call for proposals aimed at enhancing local railway initiatives that can uplift communities. This initiative is part of GWR's customer and community improvement fund, specifically targeting projects that focus on community well-being and charitable endeavors.

James Davis, a representative from GWR, shared that the funding can support a wide array of initiatives, ranging from installing bike lockers to educational programs designed to enrich the travel experience on the railways. For instance, one notable project previously funded by GWR was 'Fishing for Change,' which provided families with complimentary day trips that included both train travel and a guided tour of the scenic Bristol Harbourside.

Davis expressed enthusiasm for the ideas they are receiving, emphasizing their desire to foster a "more secure station environment". He stated, "If it benefits passengers and connects communities, we want to support it." This underscores the railway's commitment to not just transport, but also community engagement and safety.

Furthermore, a previous recipient of GWR's generosity was the Devon Folklore Library and Archive, located in Crediton, which received a substantial grant of £25,000. This funding was allocated towards their Devon Railway Heritage project, a noble effort to collect and preserve historical facts and narratives related to Devon's railway history.

If you have a project in mind that could bring value to local railway users or strengthen community bonds, don’t wait! The deadline for submitting your application is rapidly approaching, with the cutoff set for midday on Monday, February 2.
