Brace yourself, UK, because the wet weather isn't letting up anytime soon!
The Forecast: More Floods and a Chilly Surprise
If you were hoping for a break from the relentless rain, you might be in for a disappointment next week. The Environment Agency has issued a whopping 73 flood warnings, indicating that flooding is expected, primarily in the south-west of England and the Midlands. On top of that, there are 177 flood alerts across England, meaning possible flooding is on the horizon.
But here's where it gets controversial... Natural Resources Wales has issued two flood alerts in South Pembrokeshire and Powys, which might come as a surprise to some. The Met Office predicts blustery showers and chilly temperatures, with a touch of frost in the north to add to the wintery mix.
Monday will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers, with heavy rainfall expected in some areas. Brace yourself for potential hail, thunderstorms, and even snow showers in the far north. Tuesday offers a brief respite, with drier and brighter conditions.
And this is the part most people miss: while the Met Office predicts some rain and snow in the south on Wednesday and Thursday, the north will remain mostly dry. However, they caution that weather warnings may be issued later this week as conditions evolve.
The statistics don't lie: Northern Ireland experienced its wettest January in 149 years, and Southern England recorded its sixth wettest January since 1836. Some areas, like Devon, Cornwall, and Worcestershire, have been drenched for an incredible 40 consecutive days!
Since the start of the year, storms Goretti, Ingrid, and Chandra have caused havoc, with flooding in several regions, including Devon and Somerset. And unfortunately, the wet weather isn't expected to ease up next weekend, with longer spells of rain predicted.
The Met Office predicts an unsettled weekend, but there will be some drier periods between weather systems. So, while we can't escape the rain completely, at least we'll get a few moments of respite.
So, UK residents, it's time to grab your umbrellas, wellies, and a warm cup of tea, because it looks like we're in for a wet and wild ride!
